Washington’s Besieged Journalists Raise a Glass, Darkly

Recent global trade deals with the United States were secured with huge, often vaguely defined investment pledges from partners like Japan.

They are threatening smaller parts companies that are key to manufacturing and employ hundreds of thousands in Japan, South Korea and Germany.

The additions helped lift revenue to $9.8 billion during the period, a 15 percent increase from the same period last year.
